'So, What Do You Think Of The Donald?': Senator Leahy & Bill Richardson Talk Trump

Glittarazzi rubbed elbows with some of Washington, D.C.'s political stars -- as well as a few of Hollywood's -- at the Refugees International Dinner last night.

We asked Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont what he thought of Donald Trump's alleged presidential run, and he gave us a diplomatic, statesman- like answer.

"I'll leave that to Seth Meyers — he said it perfectly."

He paused, and then said "of course I'll be supporting President Obama in the next election."

In an unrelated turn of events, Senator Leahy also declared that he is an amateur photographer, asked to borrow a photographer's camera, and took a few snapshots. (We are guessing that that lucky guy will be keeping those photos as proof.)

When former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson answered the same question about The Donald, he said simply, "bizarre," with a chuckle.

Glittarazzi can tell the difference between a politician in office, and one who has retired. Can you?

Atlanta 'Real Housewife' Nene Leakes Bullies Washington, D.C., Radio Hosts

Real Housewives of Atlanta star Nene Leakes is in town, performing in "Loving Him is Killing Me" at the Lincoln Theater this week.

But, she must not be feeling our go-go music -- or the local half smokes -- because she was not having it on the Russ Parr Morning Show (93.9 WKYS) today.

Maybe she's been under a lot of pressure since she's been on Donald Trump's Celebrity Apprentice and it's starting to get to her?

Listen to her tirade here. She didn't even get a "boop!" out, so we're a little disappointed.

White House Press Gaggle: President Obama Birth Certificate

Here are some interesting excerpts from this morning's White House Press Gaggle, regarding President Obama's birth certificate, featuring Press Secretary Jay Carney, Director of Communications Dan Pfeiffer and White House Counsel Bob Bauer at 8:48 A.M. EDT:

Q    Bob, can you explain why President Obama let this drag on for four years? Was it Donald Trump that prompted you to issue this?
MR. BAUER:  I’ll let Dan --
MR. PFEIFFER:  Sure.

Q    I know you expected that question, right?  (Laughter.)
MR. PFEIFFER:  He even said you would be the one who would ask it.  (Laughter.)

I don’t think this dragged on for four years because this was a resolved -- for those of you who remember the campaign, this issue was resolved in 2008.  And it has not been an issue, none of you have asked about it, called about it, reported on it until the last few weeks.

And as I said earlier, it probably would have been -- a lot of the pundits out there have talked about the fact that this whole birther debate has been really bad for the Republican Party and would probably be good for the President politically.  But despite that, the President, as I said, was struck by how this was crowding out the debate, particularly around the budget, on important issues, and was an example of the sort of sideshows that our politics focuses on instead of the real challenges that we have to confront as a country.

And so that’s why he made this decision now, because it became an issue that transcended sort of this -- it essentially was something that was talked about, as I said, from the nether regions of the Internet onto mainstream network newscasts.  In fact, Jay has been asked about this just yesterday in this room.

Q    So I guess the implication is that you did get political advantage by having not released this until today, over the course of the last four years?
MR. PFEIFFER:  There has been -- no one that I can recall actually asked us to -- we were asked to release the President’s birth certificate in 2008.  We did that.  And then no one -- it never -- up until a few weeks ago, there was never an issue about that that wasn’t the birth certificate from any credible individual or media outlet.  And it hasn’t been until -- I mean, Jay was asked about this yesterday --

Q    You’ve got two certified copies, according to this study.  You have these physical --
MR. PFEIFFER:  Yes.  I showed you one.  Just one.

Q    You showed us a photocopy of one.
MR. PFEIFFER:  No, I showed you --

Q    Does that have a stamp?
MR. PFEIFFER:  It has a seal on it.

Q    Not to give Donald Trump more publicity than he has, but is he the person who sort of -- sort of that bridge between what you're calling a fringe and the mainstream?  Do you think that he’s the reason why this tripped the switch to a level where you now have to deal with something you thought was dealt with?
MR. PFEIFFER:  It’s not for me to say why mainstream media organizations began to cover this debate.  They’ll have to answer that for themselves.

Q    How concerned were you about running against Donald Trump in a general election?
MR. PFEIFFER:  I'd refer any questions on the election to the campaign.

Donald Trump: I Heard Obama Was A Bad Student

"I heard he was a terrible student -- not like 'OK' -- I heard he was a bad student. How does a bad student then go to Columbia, then go to Harvard? How does this happen?"

Newt Gingrich: No. 1 Potential 2012 Presidential Politico (Among Tweeps)

Who's on top when it comes to potential 2012 presidential candidates ... on Twitter?

Turns out that former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has a sizeable edge with more than 1.3 million followers.

Here's a breakdown:

  1. @NewtGingrich (1.3 million followers)
  2. @RealDonaldTrump (503,000 followers)
  3. @SarahPalinUSA (485,000 followers)
  4. @GovMikehuckabee (146,000 followers)
  5. @MicheleBachmann (42,000 followers)
  6. @repronpaul (41,000 followers)
  7. @MittRomney (36,000 followers)
  8. @Tim Pawlenty (30,000 followers)
  9. @MarcoRubio (28,000 followers)
  10. @HaleyBarbour (14,000 followers)
  11. @JebBush (12,000 followers)
  12. @RickSantorum (6,500 followers)

Of course, all of them combined are still far behind @BarackObama whose tweeting followers are nearing 7.5 million.

But, if Twitterland had its say, Lady Gaga might be our new POTUS.

No politician beats neither @ladygaga (9.4 million followers) nor @justinbieber (8.9 million followers).

Mitt Romney 2.0 Officially Begins Prez Candidacy

In a move that shocked no one, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney announced -- via Twitter and YouTube -- yesterday the formation of his exploratory committee for President of the United States, the first official step in running for President.

Mitt joins a select few of potential GOP candidates who have made the leap from talking about running to forming exploratory committees, which basically means they'll definitely be making a play for the nomination.

So far, the only other Republicans besides Mitt who have officially stepped up are former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich.

Meanwhile, many other possibly candidates are still "thinking about running." (Mr. Trump, Governor Huckabee ... we're looking in your direction.)

There are so many reasons that we're excited about Mitt joining the field of possibly Republican contenders -- there's his awesome hair that just naturally draws the eye, and the hilarious accusation that his logo was a ripped off from Aquafresh toothpaste.

But what we're looking forward to the most is the new "dressed down" Mitt Romney.

This isn't the man that voters found too stiff and unable to relate to in 2008, this is the more human candidate.  Just look at him in his announcement video (below) -- sans tie, in a cardigan, and standing in front of a football field.

Mitt, you party animal!

Come Up Trump: It's Time To Follow The Donald (@Vote4Trump2012 Now Live On Twitter)

Late last night, @Vote4Trump2012 went live on Twitter.

Here is one of the account's first tweets:

"I hate what's happening to this country. We're not respected. One thing I can say, if I ran & if I won, that would stop & everybody knows it." - @Vote4Trump2012

This doesn't appear to be a Donald J. Trump-endorsed account, but it does show that there is support for The Donald in Twitterland.

Can you trump that, Huckabee?

How To Trump Gaddafi? Screw Him on the Rent

So, how did Donald Trump screw Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi?

"I just rented him something and he didn't get to use it, and I didn't make it very easy on him -- because I'm not a big fan of Gaddafi," said Trump, who has been flirting with a presidential bid. "The fact is, I took the money and gave it to charity."

In 2009, The Donald unknowingly rented property to Gaddafi, who was looking for a place to stay while in town for a United Nations General Assembly. When Trump realized what had happened, he told the leader to take down the tent he'd pitched and find another place to stay. Then, he donated Gaddafi's payment to charity. [watch video]

"I like taking people's money, and then giving it to charity if they're bad people," he said.

    Should Trump Run?

    Should Trump run?

    Glittarazzi says yes.

And so does Michael Cohen, his Executive Vice President.

"If I run, and if I win, you are going to see things that are done properly," Donald Trump said last week.

Breaking News: Donald Trump Buys Boeing 757 For His POTUS Campaign?

Donald Trump just bought a Boeing A 757.

That's right, folks. This week, The Donald bought a new airplane.

Why does The Don -- who was at CPAC this year -- need a huge jet? To run for President of the United States, perhaps?

We can only wonder how The Trumpster will trick it out.

What do you think ... should Trump run?

    OBAMA'S CAMPAIGN PLANE

Obama spent $500K to bling out his 757.

     MCCAIN'S CAMPAIGN PLANE

McCain plane was called "Straight Talk."

"Given the length and breadth of modern presidential campaigns, it has become de rigueur for most major-party candidates to have their own airplanes for ferrying themselves and staffers, press, security, and other personnel from stop to stop along the campaign trail. Such planes may be purchased by the candidate's campaign, or they may be leased or chartered from commercial airlines. Typically, when a campaign owns its own airplane, or leases a plane under a dedicated charter arrangement, the aircraft's exterior markings will be modified to identify it as a particular candidate's campaign plane." -- Snopes

    Fired up for Trump?

Donald Trump made a surprise visit to Washington, D.C., today.

He showed up at CPAC (a.k.a. the Conservative Political Action Conference), amid buzz that he may announce his candidacy for the Presidency.

The business magnate with the world's most-perfect hair came onto the stage at the Marriott Wardman-Park Hotel ballroom with shouts from the crowd of "You're HIRED!" as he announced that he was thinking about it. The Donald said would decide by June 2011.

Ever the straight talker, he let loose with some zingers.

    Our favorite?

"How about the Somali Pirates? How simple would that be! Give me a good admiral and a couple of good ships, we'd blast them out of the water so fast."

    The crowd's least-favorite?

"By the way, Ron Paul cannot get elected president. I like Ron Paul, I think he's a good guy, but honestly he has ZERO CHANCE of getting elected," he said as conference-goers booed and jeered.

The real question we wanna know from Donald is, if he won, would he take resignations if his people didn't do their job ... or, would he you know.
