The Obama Administration reportedly has distanced itself from the idea, which is being eyed to offset a drop in existing tax revenues as cars and drivers become more energy efficient.

While we would endorse just about any proposal that promotes environmental health and conservation, this deal would have to be packaged with a cut of the $3.2 billion in profits that General Motors reported in the first quarter of 2011.
Translation? We want a free Cadillac amped with all the bells and whistles from the company that is still partially owned by the taxpayers.
