Hump Day Hottie: Quake Heard 'Round The World

The earthquake that hit the East Coast yesterday sparked so much social media activity, it got its own Twitter account.

Our Facebook and Twitter streams were flooded with peoples' accounts of what they were doing when the quake hit -- in addition to tons of jokes (not all of them totally appropriate).

The earthquake even got happy hours all over the city!

That's why we have to name the quake our Hump Day Hottie. It's gotten more attention in 24 hours than any politician, celebrity, or athlete so far this week.

Congrats, Quake! Now just leave us alone, please? We're a little scared of you.

Gary Johnson Got To Peek At Mt. Everest's Undergarments

GOP presidential candidate Gary Johnson is a pretty passionate man.

He's passionate about being athletic, he's passionate about pot, and, from the way he chose to describe Mt. Everest, we would say he's probably pretty passionate about that, too.

National Journal reporter Rebecca Kaplan tweeted that Gary said: "I did not conquer Mt. Everest. She lifted her skirt and I got in there and got a peek."

Ack! Mt. Everest does not sound like a very classy lady.

Ted Nugent & Gene Simmons Hop On Rick Perry Bandwagon

It looks like a good week for GOP Presidential Candidate Rick Perry.

Ted Nugent and Gene Simmons have both declared their love for Rick, with Gene going to far as to say that Rick is definitely winning the race.

Ted also said he is voting for Rick, since both men are such avid gun enthusiasts.

Meanwhile, Gene tweeted all about his certainty he's making the right decision (photo, below).

Well, Rick, it looks like you've got some very motivated fans!

Christine O'Donnell Takes Her Shoes Off To Promote New Book

Christine "Not A Witch" O'Donnell was in Manhattan yesterday to promote her new book "Troublemaker: Let's Do What It Takes to Make America Great Again."

Apparently, Christine got a little too cozy on the streets of New York.

FOX News reporter Chad Pergram tweeted that he spotted Christine walking around the Big Apple -- sans shoes.

Well, that's not exactly a place we'd feel safe walking around barefoot in. But, whatever floats your boat, Christine!

She'll be in Washington, D.C., today, so keep an eye out for her! Maybe she's taking off her shoes on every stop of her book tour.

Thad McCotter Jams With Mike Huckabee

Who knew our politicos could be such rockstars?

We got to see Presidential Candidate Thad McCotter, jamming in Iowa with former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee -- and it looked like they were seriously enjoying it.

Thad tweeted about it afterwards.

Apparently, he's not only great at playing guitar. He also knows a thing or two about Twitter hashtags (check out his tweet, below).

Donald Trump Disses President Obama's Work Ethic

Donald Trump is not too happy with President Obama.

The billionaire tweeted about the POTUS's lack of work ethic, which we think is a little unfair considering the President went seven whole weeks without being able to hit the golf course. The debt ceiling debates meant the President had to work on weekends, ending his 13-weekend golf streak.

And, you can't blame the man for wanting to make a little family bonding time in Martha's Vineyard.

Think you can do better? Why don't you run for president, already? :)

Mitt Romney Shows Off New Ax

Mitt Romney went back to New Hampshire last weekend after enjoying a few days in Iowa.

And, a present was waiting for him upon arrival.

Ovide LaMontagne, a New Hampshire conservative leader, welcomed the Romneys into his home as he presented Mitt with a "budget-cutting ax," which Mitt got so excited about ... he had to tweet about it.

President Obama Lost 36,000 Twitter Followers During 'Tweet-Spam' Incident

President Obama may be making more of an effort to be involved with his Twitter account, but the majority of his tweets are still written by his staff.

And, that's not always helpful to him -- because he lost 36,000 followers in one day recently.

One social media blog recently ranted that the POTUS tweet-spammed people as he sent out close to 100 tweets in a row, urging constituents to contact their legislators.

We remember the day that @BarackObama took over our Twitter feed, and it was not cool, Mr. President. We follow so many other people. We'd like to see what they have to say, too!

Maybe the President should take charge and stop letting his staff tweet for him. The busyness of his schedule alone would impact the amount -- and, probably, quality -- of tweets he sends out.

Newt Gingrich Enjoys Iowa Corn Dogs

Newt and Cally Gingrich were spotted having a fabulous time at the Iowa State Fair.

Newt enjoyed a corn dog (photo, left) and Cally tweeted about how much she enjoyed the parade.

It was "great fun," he said.

Cally -- who is always politically correct when it comes to her fashion -- was looking sharp in a blue button down with a gold necklace, while Newt rocked a matching red and blue striped shirt.

Newt Gingrich Thinks London Should Team Up With Rudy Giuliani

The recent riots in London are no laughing matter.

Newt Gingrich has some advice for London: get in touch with Rudy Giuliani.

The former New York mayor did do a lot to reduce crime rates in the city, but we're not sure how he would fare against the ultra-violent London rioters, who burned down half the city.

Nice try, Newt, but you're gonna have to come up with a better idea than that.

Tagg Romney Wants To Play Xbox With Chad Ochocinco

We already learned that John Kerry is a Chad Ochocinco fan.

Now, Mitt Romney's son, Tagg, has hopped on the Ochocinco welcome wagon.

While Chad is busy being lost in Massachussets, Tagg is hoping he'll find his way over to his house -- for some Xbox.

TwitPic some adorable bro pictures if you guys do hang out, please!

Photo: Tim Pawlenty Enjoys A Nice Game Of Catch In Iowa

Tim Pawlenty is living his "Field of Dreams" moment in Iowa.

The GOP presidential candidate tweeted last weekend that he was enjoying "heaven" as he threw around a baseball while on the road.

Tim is in Iowa, gearing up for the Straw Poll. Tim, we hope this isn't target practice for when you face off against the other GOP contenders! (Ouch!)

Who, What, Where: Omar Epps In DC On 'White House Biz'

"House" star Omar Epps is on his way to D.C. for some mysterious "White House biz."

We can only guess why he's here -- the actor has not released any other details about his trip -- and does not seem to be on President Obama's agenda.

However, judging from this picture we found of him, we think he might be here to see Britney Spears.

(He channels her snake love so well!)

Miley Cyrus Rips Rick Santorum Up In Twitterland

Miley Cyrus is getting all the pre-teens riled up against Rick Santorum's presidential bid announcement.

She tweeted yesterday, mocking Rick's comments on gay marriage and the fact that Urban Outfitters, recently discovered to have stolen jewelry designs from artists, contributed to the former Pennsylvania senator's campaign.

Luckily for Rick, most of Miley's one million followers are probably not old enough to vote.

And who takes that Miley girl seriously anymore? We all know she has two personalities and likes to smoke salvia.

Man Live Tweets Osama Bin Laden's Slaying From Pakistan Via @ReallyVirtual

Sohaib Athar, a man who lives in Abbottabad Lahore Pakistan near Jalal Baba Auditorium, unknowingly live blogged the attack and slaying of Osama Bin Laden via Twitter.

The IT consultant -- who runs a blog called ReallyVirtual.com and tweets via @reallyvirtual -- thought he was "taking a break from the rat-race by hiding in the mountains with his laptops," according to his Twitter profile, but that was clearly not the case.

According to his tweets, the attack started at 1 a.m. Pakistan time, when he noticed a helicopter hovering above Abbottabad, which he said was a "rare event."

He tweeted that he wished the helicopter would go away. Shortly thereafter, he felt a "huge window shaking bang."

Then, the 33-year-old father tweeted that there were two helicopters and that one had been shot down, which people were saying was not a Pakistani helicopter.

"Since taliban (probably) don't have helicpoters, and since they're saying it was not "ours", so must be a complicated situation #abbottabad"

The, he tweeted: "The abbottabad helicopter/UFO was shot down near the Bilal Town area, and there's report of a flash. People saying it could be a drone."

Then, he retweeted terminalxpk saying, "'A Major of the #Pakistan #Army's 19 FF, Platoon CO says incident at #Abbottabad where #helicopter crashed is accidental and not an 'attack'"

When his power failed, he did what any other social media geek would do ... he powered up his generator.

Morales to the story: Never underestimate the power of social media; IT consultants never sleep. #redbull

Check out his twitter feed (order: last to first):

  • And now, a plane flying over Abbottabad...
  • and now I feel I must apologize to the pilot about the swatter tweets :-/
  • terminalxpk Terminal X  by ReallyVirtual: The Major also says no "missiles" were fired and all such exaggerated reports are nothing but rumours #Pakistan
  • terminalxpk Terminal X by ReallyVirtual: A Major of the #Pakistan #Army's 19 FF, Platoon CO says incident at #Abbottabad where #helicopter crashed is accidental and not an "attack"
  • Two helicpoters, one down, could actually be the training accident scenario they're saying it was >> http://bit.ly/ioGE6O
  • Here's the location of the Abbottabad crash according to some people >>>
  • @smedica 'safer' is a relative term that has lost its meaning in Pakistan
  • @smedica I live near Jalal Baba Auditorium
  • @smedica It must have been more, I started noticing the helicpoter when the noise got irritating - which part of Abbottabd are you in?
  • @tahirakram very likely - but it was too noisy to be a spy craft, or, a very poor spy craft it was.
  • @smedica people are saying it was not a technical fault and it was shot down. I heard it CIRCLE 3-4 times above, sounded purposeful.
  • @wqs figures, if they have the right to shoot planes flying over the president house, the must have the same instructions for PMA
  • the abbottabad helicopter/UFO was shot down near the Bilal Town area, and there's report of a flash. People saying it could be a drone.
  • @tahirakram they're not saying anything
  • @kashaziz technically, it is unidentified until identified, and it is a flying object, so year, why the hell not, we have seen weirder stuff
  • @tahirakram yea. *hides his giant swatter*
  • @raihak yep, the mad power cuts have reached abbottabad - 14 hours daily - luckily I have a generator AND a UPS at the coffee shop
  • Since taliban (probably) don't have helicpoters, and since they're saying it was not "ours", so must be a complicated situation #abbottabad
  • @raihak Funny, moving to Abbottabad was part of the 'being safe' strategy
  • @raihak I try, man, I try
  • han3yy Hania Ahmed by ReallyVirtual: OMG :S Bomb Blasts in Abbottabad.. I hope everyone is fine :(
  • @m0hcin the few people online at this time of the night are saying one of the copters was not Pakistani...
  • @m0hcin seems like my giant swatter worked !
  • @m0hcin all silent after the blast, but a friend heard it 6 km away too... the helicopter is gone too.
  • A huge window shaking bang here in Abbottabad Cantt. I hope its not the start of something nasty :-S
  • Go away helicopter - before I take out my giant swatter :-/
  • Helicopter hovering above Abbottabad at 1AM (is a rare event).
