Secret Service Agent Arrested For DUI: They Should Be Banned From Drinking

A Secret Service agent on President Obama's bus tour of the Midwest was arrested for drunk driving.

The arrest happened in Iowa, and the agent was off duty when he was pulled over.

Team Glittarazzi voted and thinks Secret Service agents should be banned from drinking at any time.

It's just not safe, considering all the ninja dance moves they know. They could hurt an innocent blogger ... in the nightclub.

Political Roundup: Mitt Romney Sells T-Shirts; The Obamas Vacation; John McCain Travels

The week is wrapping up, with only one more day left until the weekend (yes!).

We've compiled all of the fun/silly/important things you need to know.

Here's what's up:

  • Mitt Romney is now selling "Magical Misery Tour" t-shirts (photo, right), poking fun at President Obama's bus tour of the Midwest.
  • The Obamas will be staying at a 28.5 acre estate on Martha's Vineyard, which they -- not taxpayers -- are paying for.
  • John McCain seems to be enjoying his travels. He's already been to Pakistan, Kashmir and Tibet.
  • Jon Huntsman is getting serious about attacking his GOP contenders. First one he's taking on? Mitt Romney.

President Obama Surprises Young Athletes

President Obama made a surprise stop at Galesburg High School in Illinois, near the end of his bus tour, yesterday.

As he approached the kids, someone could be heard saying, "Oh, shit!"

We know, kid. He's much more handsome in person than he is in photos.

The POTUS came over and told them to take a knee, then gave an inspiring speech about how they were doing a great job, and he believed in them.

"I just want to say I'm proud of you. I don't want to interrupt your practice. You needed a little bit of a breather, I saw you guys out here," he told them. "You guys stay focused and you stay together."

The team joined in yelling their motto -- "Win the day!" -- after the speech was over.

"Win the day. That's my motto every morning, man, absolutely. I like that," said the President.

He also gave them one piece of hopefully lasting advice: not everyone makes it to the NFL, though some of them might, so it's important to continue studying hard, no matter what.

The whole story is so sweet, we can't help but smile.

President Obama Gets Specially Made Pie In Illinois

One of the reasons why we love President Obama has to do with the transitive property.

We love pie. President Obama loves pie. Therefore, we love President Obama.

And, the POTUS loves pie so much, that he was pleasantly surprised to find his own, specially made coconut cream pie awaiting him in Illinois.

While at a town hall in Atkinson, President Obama apologized to Lisa Brants, a chef/owner of the restaurant Lisa's Place, for shutting down her restaurant with the road closures necessary for his event.

Lisa wasn't too upset, though. The POTUS came into the shop with the intent to "eat up everything in the place" to make it up to her, and she already had a present waiting for him.

"I hear there's a pie for me," Obama said. "What kind is it?"

Lisa informed him that it was coconut cream, with a cinnamon roll on the side.

"I'm very excited about that," he responded. "Coconut cream is one of my favorites."

Midwest Towns Hoping To Cash In On Obama's Visits

President Obama may actually be able to help out the economy with his bus tour.

Not because of what he's actually saying to people, though.

The establishments and towns that he rolled through this week are hoping to make some money simply off the fact that the POTUS visited them.

The President's trip to Ireland caused "busloads of tourists" to visit the tiny town he drank a Guinness in, so why not the Midwest?

Sarah Palin Hops Off 'One Nation' Bus ... Again

'After four days on the road, Sarah Palin's "One Nation" bus tour is, once again, on hiatus.

The former Governor of Alaska is taking a break to send her kids off to school, according to her Facebook page.

Sarah hasn't said whether the bus tour will continue or not, and for now, she's going to be busy.

When asked what she'll be up to while her kids are in school, Sarah replied, "I look forward to continuing my own writing and research on strategies and plans to help move our country forward."

She will be on the road again, soon, though.

She's delivering the keynote speech at a Tea Party rally in Iowa on Sept. 3, and will be headlining a rally with Glenn Beck in Missouri on Oct. 7.

Maybe we'll see you around, Sarah! Or maybe not, depending on what your ever-changing schedule looks like.

President Obama Picks Up Gift For Michelle

President Obama couldn't forget the First Lady while he's gone to the Midwest for a few days.

He picked up a present for her -- seeds for the White House garden from the Seed Savers Exchange in Decorah, Iowa.

"They gave me a pack of seeds for Michelle's garden," he said. "So I'm going to be in good stead when I get home."

While he didn't say what kind of plants they are, the Seed Savers Exchange houses the largest seedbank in North America, preserving heirloom seeds. Michelle loves heirloom veggies; her garden includes some that she got from Thomas Jefferson's vegetable garden in Monticello.

What a sweet gift, Mr. President!

Rush Limbaugh Rewards President Obama's Iowa Heckler

President Obama had some disgruntled tea partiers to deal with when he stopped in Iowa for a town hall meeting during his Midwestern bus tour.

The hecklers asked the POTUS why the Vice President and Homeland Security Secretary have referred to right-wing supporters as "terrorists."

The whole argument escalated, as these things tend to do (you can watch the video of it, below).

What made us laugh was finding out that Rush Limbaugh heard about this, and quickly rushed to find out more about the hecklers. He found one of them, Ryan Rhodes, and invited him onto his radio show. Rush rewarded the brave soul with an iPad and a MacBook Air.

Uh, Rush? What do we have to do to get hooked up with some free technology?

Editor's Note: Rush shouldn't reward people for heckling POTUS.

President Obama's Minnesota Menu: Turkey & Pies

President Obama made some pitstops in Minnesota yesterday to fuel up on Midwestern foods.

For lunch, he invited some post-9/11 veterans over to the Old Market Deli (photo, above). Looking pretty casual in rolled-up sleeves and without a tie or jacket, the President munched a turkey sandwich on wheat bread.

You might be thinking that's an unusually healthy lunch for our president. Well, never fear!

He made a detour into Zumbrota, Minnesota, for pie at the Coffee Mill. His order? Two slices each of apple, pumpkin, German chocolate, "something with Graham crackers," and an entire coconut cream pie, according to a White House travel pool email.

We wonder how much of that pie the president ate himself?

Political Roundup: Rick Perry Hops In, Tim Pawlenty Hops Out & President Obama Goes For A Drive

This weekend was a whole lot of crazy, thanks to the straw poll.

We've got a roundup of what went on to help you sort through the whole mess.

Here's what went down:

Sarah Palin To Pull 'Wedding Crashers' Moment, Straw Poll-Style

Sarah Palin may not be a GOP presidential candidate yet, but that doesn't mean she can't have a little fun in Iowa.

The former Alaska governor decided that she wants to hit up the Straw Poll, even if she's not campaigning. So, she'll be rolling in on her "One Nation" tour bus this Saturday.

And, that's just fine by us. Give us a holler, Sarah! We'd love to see you.

Tim Pawlenty Begins 8-Day Bus Tour (See You Soon, T-Paw!)

GOP Presidential Candidate Tim Pawlenty has been touring Iowa for the past month, and tomorrow he will be hopping back on his "Road to Results" bus for an 8-day tour that ends at the Aug. 13 Straw Poll in Ames, Iowa.

(Yes, Team Glittarazzi will be there!)

Most of his events sound pretty normal -- there are, for example, a lot of "meet and greets" listed -- but some are kind of intriguing to us.

At Fort Dodge, on Aug. 9, Tim will be at a picnic. He will also be at a pizza party for college students on Aug. 12 at Iowa State University.

But, by far, the most intriguing event is his August 12 "Guest Chef at Iowa Pork Producers Association Booth" in Des Moines. Does that mean he'll be eating pork? Does that mean he'll be cooking pork? We're not entirely sure, but we definitely can't wait to find out!

For more info, check out his bus tour schedule here.

President Obama Plans Midwestern Bus Tour

There is something about a good, old-fashioned road trip that gets people so excited.

And, politicians seem to love the idea of hopping on a bus and touring the country.

Which is why it's no surprise that President Obama's staff has announced that he will be making a tour of the Midwest on August 15.

The focus of the trip will be jobs and the economy, but no other details have been released so far.

Lucky us, we're going to be in the Midwest that very week -- on POTUS bus watch! Stay tuned!

T-Paw Keeps Cool Despite Heat Wave

Tim Pawlenty is having a good day.

The GOP presidential candidate tweeted that the air conditioning on his RV is now fixed -- just in time for Iowa's heat wave.

And thank goodness -- because temperatures in the Midwest (and the rest of the country) are breaking records, reaching more than 100 degrees.

Photo: Tim Pawlenty Reveals New Bus & Slogan

Tim Pawlenty will be the next GOP candidate to begin a tour of Iowa.

He plans on spending 20 days traveling through the state in an RV, ending with a game of hockey at "Pucks and Pizza with Pawlenty" in Urbandale.

His new slogan -- the clever "Road to Results" -- decorates the recreational vehicle he'll use to visit 18 cities. He'll end his tour just before the Aug. 13 straw poll.

The bus is looking good, T-Paw!

Note: Our headline says "bus," but it's technically an RV! :)

Rick Santorum Gets Down In Iowa (Think House Parties)

It looks like Rick Santorum is living it up on his bus tour through Iowa.

The former Pennsylvania Senator has been partying after hours -- and thanking the people who make his partying possible via Twitter.

Where's the next shindig, Rick? We want to party with you, too!

(Note: We realize these events are fundraisers at supporters' homes.)

Sarah Palin Did Not Ditch Her Roadtrip

Sarah Palin might be back in Alaska, but her roadtrip has not been cancelled, the former Alaskan governor Tweeted today.

Though Sarah did not declare an official schedule for the Midwest and Southeast legs of her "One Nation" bus tour, there are preliminary itineraries drafted.

It looks like Sarah's getting angry at the media for informing her of her own decisions. Well, Sarah, maybe if you told us what your plans are -- including whether or not you're running for president -- we wouldn't have to speculate!

Chasing Sarah: Mama Grizzly's Gettysburg Fans Feeling 'Stood Up'

Several hundred people hoping to get a glimpse of Sarah Palin in Gettysburg, Pa., Monday left disappointed.

The former vice presidential candidate was scheduled to arrive at the Civil War battlefield, but reportedly showed up several hours later at a hotel outside of town.

Perhaps her supporters jumped the gun because  Sarah hit up the historic site today with family in tow. She even snapped a few pics and blogged about heroes of Gettysburg.

She isn't announcing the locations for her bus tour in advance so you can't be upset when she isn't where you think she'll be.

We need to plant a GPS on that bus!

Or you can just follow the hastag #ChasingSarah

Sarah Palin: Hopping On A Hog This Weekend In DC

We're all getting geared up to watch Sarah Palin roll up on a motorcycle this weekend.

According to Nancy Regg, spokeswoman for "Rolling Thunder," Sarah is expected to meet up with veterans for the ride at the Pentagon at 7:00 Sunday morning.

Sarah is using the "Rolling Thunder" motorcycle ride as a kickoff point for her bus tour across the eastern coast. She's stated that her tour is "restoring the good in America" by celebrating "the good things that bring Americans together."

Keep an eye out for Mama Grizzly around the District this weekend.
