Trendspotting: Flash Mobs in D.C.
Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at 3:16PM
First, there was the Dupont bookstore flash mob.
Then, people stripped down to their "Live United" tees at Union Station. And, a couple of years later, Wedzilla struck.
Now, it's Chinatown's turn.
This month, D.C. Metro commuters are going to experience a musical flash mob as they tap their toes (or get slightly annoyed) as hundreds of people sing Christmas carols during rush hour.
So, what the heck is a flash mob?
A flash mob (or flashmob) is a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual act for a brief time, then disperse. The term flash mob is generally applied only to gatherings organized via telecommunications, social media, or viral emails.
Curious? Check out the "Christmas Caroling Flash Mob" on Dec. 13th.
(Psst ... if anyone asks, the Glittarazzi did not send you.) ;-)
