President Obama Shares 'Good Stuff' At Washington, D.C., Eatery

President Obama was spotted taking a lunch break at Good Stuff Eatery yesterday.

He decided to take out staffers who helped him during the debt deal negotiations for a well-deserved burger and shake extravaganza. The first thing the POTUS said when he walked in?

"It smells good. Michelle eats here all the time, but I don't get out."

Ouch, Michelle. Looks like your secret's out!

The President not only paid for his staff, but also offered to pay for a woman standing next to him in line. He also offered an 11-year-old boy seated at the table next to his the chance to pick out one of their milkshakes for himself.

"Choose any milkshake," he said. "I guarantee this table isn't going to drink them all."

You're too kind, Mr. President.

His meal consisted of a plain cheeseburger (no, not their President Obama burger), fries, and a salad.

Who, What, Where: Chef Spike, Maya Soetoro-Ng & Chris Draft

Bravo "Top Chef" Spike Mendelsohn; President Obama's half-sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng; and Professional Football Player Chris Draft will be reading to kids today at the Department of Education.

The event is part of the "Let's Read. Let's Move." summer initiative, which encourages children to be healthy by staying active and reading to enrich themselves while not in school.

Previous participants in the initiative include Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan.

Spotted: Top Chef's Spike Mendelsohn (Pitching) At National's Park

We were pleasantly surprised to see Top Chef's Spike Mendelsohn of Good Stuff Eatery at the Washington National's game today. No, he wasn't grilling up the perfect game dog -- he was pitching! [watch]

Totally Kosher: Chef Spike Mendelsohn & Joan Nathan To Dish On Jewish Food Tonight

Chef Spike Mendelsohn -- who just launched the Sixth & Rye food truck -- and author of "Quiches, Kugels and Couscous," Joan Nathan will be at the National Archives tonight.

Not, they won't be talking about everything from matzo to challah bread and how they play a part in holidays like Passover.

The discussion is part of the National Archives' "What's Cooking, Uncle Sam?" exhibit about American foods.

Mazel!

'Taste of Arlington' Takes Over Ballston; Food Fans Mingle With Top Chef Spike

It was hot, rainy and humid but we still managed to get some quality grubbing done at the Taste of Arlington on Sunday.

We also caught up with Top Chef's Spike Mendelsohn of Good Stuff Eatery, who was signing his autograph at the Verizon booth.

Rustico's panzanella, Sangam's mini Indian buffet and Caribbean Breeze's chicken skewers with guava sauce were all delicious and worth the wait in the super long lines.

However, Pinzimini's still on our minds with their crazy dish that included pork belly and melon served on pipette with Bourbon sauce. Mmm, medical-themed deliciousness.

Spotted: Chuck Liddell At Good Stuff Eatery

Everyone loves cheeseburgers.

And, not even an elite athlete's diet could keep UFC fighter Chuck Liddell from Chef Spike Mendelsohn's burgers at Good Stuff Eatery on Saturday.

The Iceman was in town for the 2011 Joint Service Open House and Airshow at Andrews Air Force Base.

DC's Hot New Food Truck: 'Sixth and Rye' Now Serving Kosher Food On Wheels

Washington, D.C.'s got food trucks with lobster rolls, Korean tacos and cupcakes.

But now, "Sixth and Rye" is adding kosher fare to the list -- with signature sandwiches, wraps, slaw and more.

Yes, Top Chef's Spike Mendelsohn and on-board chef Malcolm Mitchell have teamed up with Jewish organization, Sixth & I, to bring D.C. lunchers an authentically kosher menu.

We're super-excited to try the signature smoked corned beef sandwich and the fresh-cut chips, but we're also totally drooling over the black and white cookies. (Yum!)

Spike This: Local Chef To 'Mexicanize' American Dishes On Food Network

This Saturday, Good Stuff Eatery's Spike Mendelsohn will spice things up, Washington, D.C.-style, on the Food Network's Mexican Made Easy.

We hear he'll "Mexicanize" some American dishes, like burgers, shakes and fries on the show, which airs Saturday at 9:30 a.m. EST.

Hmm, we wonder if he'll be spiking anything with tequila?

If You See The 'Sixth And Rye' Truck, Just Challah!

The man who brought us Good Stuff Eatery is preparing to dazzle our tastebuds once more.

But this time, Top Chef's Spike Mendelsohn is going mobile ... with a food truck.

"Sixth and Rye" will team up with the "Sixth and I" Synagogue to feature food items of the kosher persuasion.

(Team Glittarazzi can only imagine the rye, the brisket -- and more importantly -- the pastrami that will come out of this new venture.)

Who knows maybe there'll be fast food-style gefilte Fish?

Our only sadness? The truck will only be available on Fridays.

Food Fight: Top Cheffers Battle It Out, DC-Style

What's going on in our Nation's Capital when it comes to food? A lot.

So much, in fact, that we had to use little bullet points to organize it all. ...

  • Last week, Top Chef's Carla Hall (season five) joined forces with D.C. Central Kitchen's board of directors to help them with its Culinary Job Training program, which is a 16-week course for unemployed adults struggling with homelessness, addiction and incarceration. [DCist]
  • Top Chef's Tiffany Derry (seasons seven and eight) was in town last week, cooking up a storm on Capitol Hill. (But, not that kind of storm.) She was lobbying against the "Gainful Employment" rule. [Glittarazzi]
  • Spike Mendelsohn of Top Chef (season four) has been busy lately. He's launching a local food truck, and he's set up a Good Stuff Eatery franchise with plans to open locations in Philadelphia, and possibly Chicago, in the next year. [See video]

American Pie: Michelle Obama spotted at Capitol Hill's We, The Pizza

What did Mr. Artichoke say to Ms. Spinach?

"We the pizza!"

And what did First Lady Michelle Obama say on her way to Top Chef Spike Mendelsohn's We, The Pizza Saturday night?

We're guessing it was, "Let's move!"

A repeat customer, this was Michelle's third visit to the Capitol Hill pizzeria, which has a a slice 'n' easy mission that fits the FLOTUS' "Let's Move" initiative.

"(The restaurant) use(s) fresh local ingredients, charge(s) reasonable prices and offer(s) sophisticated but simple flavor combinations," writes Politico's Dianna Heitz. "Cheeses for the pizzas come from around the D.C. area, and tomatoes for the sauce are brought in from a farm in Virginia."

Healthful, localvore-approved -- and topped with a politically correct moniker?

No wonder the First Lady Spikes it.
