In the wild, animals assert their dominance in many ways. Some of these displays are audible, while some prefer a more theatrical approach by boasting bright colors, feathers or by territorial dance.
These displays are also prevalent among packs of women in trendy night clubs.
When the lovely ladies of Glittarazzi invited me to a girls' night out to Opera, I could not resist. They have a proven track record to be blasts in a glass.
I've been to just about every club in D.C. on more than one occasion, so to me I expected just the same 'ol, same 'ol: Herds of party goers clamoring to get inside, guest lists, austere bouncers ... I know the drill.
So, I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly I was whisked away inside. Sure, arriving solo to meet a table of ladies makes for a great lubricant, but I was pleased nonetheless.
The party was already all the way live with a very-well dressed, good-looking crowd assembled. The venue itself, pristine with an electric flair and bursting with colored lights. Since the venue is underground, it has that great, basement dance party vibe since all of the energy is contained in one room. I kind of felt like I was on a very sexy and chic Starship Enterprise.
Just like a pack of she-wolves at one point, we sashayed to the DJ booth to check out DJ Deemo get busy. (And due the sheer volume of the group, the other group of ladies that were previously there were forced to eventually re-locate.) Now everyone knows that house/trance/dance is not my #1 choice of music, but in the right setting, with the right DJ I can get down with the best.
So there I was -- champagne sipping, hair shaking and body rocking the night away, not to be outdone by DJ Deemo who at one point actually climbed on all fours over the DJ booth, while he mixed.
Yeah. It was one of those nights.
All in all, I was extremely impressed by the venue and the staff. I really hope it doesn't become too pretentious or go the other extreme, because right now - it's hot! Will definitely be back!
