Ouch! U.S. Soldiers Charged $40 (Minimum) For Phone Calls

Well, this is kind of upsetting.

It seems that the company that handles the payphones in the secured area of a German airbase that acts as a layover for American service members may be overcharging U.S. soldiers that make calls to family.

And, when we say overcharging, we mean OVERCHARGING.

According to a recently filed lawsuit against BBG Communications and its partner company BBG Global AG by U.S. Army Sergeant Richard Corder and his wife, the company, which has the exclusive contract to operate the phones, has rigged them so that they only way to make a call is by paying with a credit card and incurring a $41 minimum fee. (Richard filed the lawsuit after paying over 40 bucks for a 4-second call to wife’s cell phone that went straight to voicemail.) The service members obviously don’t have cellphones -- and the payphones apparently don’t accept calling cards or allow the use of 1-800 numbers.

We are told that notice is nto posted anywhere near the phones informing callers of the fee whatsoever.

Not cool, guys. Not cool.
