Meet Catarina Migliorini.
The 20-year-old Brazilian student just made a lot of money in an online auction. And, while for most people that would mean about 20 bucks from selling old beanie babies, for Catarina it's $780,000 for her virginity. Ugh!
The whole thing is the brainchild of Australian Filmmaker Jason Sisely, who is apparently making a documentary about this little venture in online commerce. Jason reportedly worked with Catarina to set up the auction, along with terms and conditions, and will be filming before and after the rendezvous with the winning bidder -- a Japanese man (try not to act surprised).
The "exchange" is supposed to go down in the coming weeks in Australia, though we're pretty sure this has got some legal implications that are going to be coming up due to the publicity. You know, since she's having sex for money and all.
But, if you (or the authorities), think this arrangement makes Catarina a prostitute, she's got a response. According to reporters, she reasoned aloud: "If you only do it once in your life then you are not a prostitute, just like if you take one amazing photograph it does not automatically make you a photographer."
The best part of this story is that a simultaneous auction was run with Catarina's to sell a guy's virginity. The winning bid was $3,000.
Sad trombone.
