'What's Obama's Last Name?' Hits Twitter (This Is Why We Worry About America)

obama facepalm 2012 09 24

As election day draws nearer, we're really beginning to worry about the people who might be voting -- especially after seeing Buzzfeed's compilation of tweets from folks asking the age-old question "What's Obama's last name?"

(See it, here.)

Come on, America. We can do better.

Not everyone loves politics and that's OK, but if you're voting (and if you're at least 18 years old, you definitely should), then you should keep yourself informed enough to make an educated decision.

(Plus, every now and then a politician does something really funny and that's always great to read about.)

Spending Report: Obama & Romney Campaigns Share Some Favorite Things

obama romney ipad 2012 9 24

President Obama and Republican Nominee Mitt Romney disagree on pretty much every single policy issue and political point of contention.

But, it seems that their campaigns actually agree on some things. Mainly what they like to buy.

According to recent filing by both campaigns, which details what the two efforts vying for the White House spent during the month of August, both groups are dropping cash on some very similar things.

  • Both expensed a lot of fast food. The Romney camp spent more than $300 at conservative chicken sandwich chain Chick-fil-A, while the Obama campaign racked up a $150 bill at Dunkin Donuts and $204 tab at Rubicon Deli.
  • Voters scream for ice cream. It seems that the way to voters' hearts in Ohio is through ice cream. While the Obama camp shelled out $360 for frozen treat at Toft's Dairy in Sandusky, Ohio, Romney and Co. spent close to $6,000 to rent out Zanevill's Tom's Ice Cream Bowl for an event.
  • Everyone loves Apple products. But the most surprising shared expense is what groups spent on Apple gear, including products and software. The Romney campaign bought $50,000 worth of equipment from Apple, which makes the Obama team's purchase of $20,000 seem small.

We'll admit it is kind of interesting to find similarities between the two campaigns that are both accusing each other of being out of touch with America and dividing the country.

But, if we all share a love of takeout, rocky road, and iPads ... maybe we're not so different after all?

Ann Romney To The Haters: Chill Out, Guys

ann romney 2012 09 21

Whoa, whoa, America. Calm down.

Can everyone stop hating on Mitt Romney for just one second, please?

That's the message Ann Romney gave to critics about her husband on a radio show this week.

"Stop it. This is hard. You want to try it? Get in the ring," she said when confronted.

President Obama keeps getting grayer, so we can only imagine how stressful it must be in the Romney household. We honestly don't understand the need for so much drama.

Can't we all just ... be friends?

DiD yOu KnOW? ... Ann Romney doesn't just sit around and let Mitt be the big boss; she's involved in all kinds of charitable work. Some of the organizations she's worked with include Best Friends (which focuses on inner-city teenagers), the Mother Caroline Academy, and the United Way of Massachusetts Bay.

homer election 2012 09 21

And, they're answering the question on the minds of all Americans: will Homer vote for Mitt Romney or Barack Obama?

Yeah, we're all about this. Find out who Homer picks, below.

DiD yOu KnOw? ... Holy cartoon comedy royalty! Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons, happens to be the brother-in-law of "Hey Arnold!" creator Craig Bartlett, who is married to Matt's sister.

Mitt Romney Releases Tax Returns: GOP Presidential Candidate Made $13.7M in 2011

mitt 2012 4 20

Today, Mitt Romney finally released his tax returns.

He made $13.7 million in 2011 ($13,696,951 to be exact) and paid a tax rate of 14.1% ($1,935,708).

One question: does this mean he'll be collecting that $1 million from Larry Flynt?

"Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has released his full 2011 federal income tax returns, fulfilling a commitment he made earlier this year. Brad Walt, the trustee of the Romney’s blind trust, said the Romneys paid $1,935,708 in 2011 taxes on $13,696,951 in income. He said the Romneys’ effective tax rate for 2011 was 14.1%. Also in the release, Walt said that during the 20-year period between 1990-2009, the Romneys paid an average federal tax rate of 20.2%. In January, Romney released a summary of his 2011 taxes. In it, he and his wife, Ann, originally said they filed a joint 1040 reporting a joint income of $21 million and a tax bill of $3.2 million." - CNN

Worried About The National Debt? Now, You Can Donate To Help Pay It Off

National debt 2012 9 21

Does the USA's national debt bother you?

Do you stay up at night, consumed by fears brought on by the amount of money the government has borrowed and the growing interest rate of said borrowed cash?|

Well, now you can do your part and help the United States pay off its massive $16 trillion debt by donating to the government.

On Wednesday, House Republicans passed a bill that would allow taxpayers to check a box on their tax forms indicating that they would like to pay more than the amount they owe for that tax year, which would be used to pay the growing debt. It’s estimated that taxpayers would chip in an extra $135 million over the next 10 years.

The bill, which now has an uncertain future in the Senate, is meant to be a dig at President Obama and the famed investor, Warren Buffett. Our smarter readers will recall that the duo tried (and failed) to convince Congress to pass “the Buffett Rule,” which would have forced America’s top earners to pay a minimum tax rate of 30%.

This explains why the legislation is titled the “Buffet Rule Act” and why Democrats have been quoted as saying they support everything about the bill except the name.

Things That Make Us Laugh: Mitt Romney-Inspired 'Rom Com 2012' Tumblr

no strings mitt 2012 09 19

No need to wonder what Mitt Romney would be like in a romantic comedy, ladies and gentlemen!

(What? We couldn't possibly be the only ones thinking about it. ...)

Now, you can head on over to Rom Com 2012, a Tumblr blog dedicated to imagining what already existing rom coms (a.k.a. romantic comedies) would be like if the male lead was replaced with Mitt.

We're not sure what's funnier -- either the pictures of Mitt in the movies or the descriptions.

Make sure your boss isn't around when you check it out, here, because you'll definitely be giggling.

DiD yOu KnOw? ... We obviously can't get enough of these hilarious Tumblrs. If you feel the same way, you might want to read about Little Face Mitt, here.

President Obama, Jay-Z & Beyoncé Are The Cutest BFFs You'll Ever See

beyonce jay obama 2012 09 20

What happens when you put Barack Obama, Beyoncé, and Jay-Z in a room together?

Pure magic, it seems!

The POTUS hit up Jay-Z's 40/40 club in New York this week for a fundraiser hosted by the rapper and his wife, Beyoncé -- and, we haven't been able to stop staring at the pictures.

Not only is there this great "brush your shoulders off" picture making rounds on the Internet today (above), there's also a wonderful quote.

"We both have daughters and our wives are more popular than we are. So, you know, we've got a little bond there. It's hard but it's OK," Obama explained, speaking of his similarities with Jay-Z.

Aww! Don't worry, Mr. President! We may adore Michelle, but we definitely still love you.

DiD yOu KnOw? ... We would love if the POTUS and Jay-Z became bros. It would just complete the circle of love initiated by Beyoncé's love letter to Michelle Obama, which she fabulously reads out loud in this video.

Redskins Owner Dan Snyder Reportedly To Host Pow-Wow Fundraiser For Romney

We don’t know who Barack Obama has on his offensive line, but rumor has it that Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney has the Washington Redskins on his side.

Redskins owner Dan Snyder will reportedly host a fundraiser for Romney, though Snyder is saying it isn’t true.

A campaign official told POLITCO that a fundraiser had been scheduled, but Snyder’s reps are denying any such event is planned.

Don’t be shy, Danny! Mitt needs all the celeb endorsements he can get -- especially since Clint Eastwood didn’t exactly earn him very many cool points.

Sprinkle It Forward: Sprinkles Cupcakes Encourages Anti-Partisan Giving On Capitol Hill

How do we stop both sides of Congress from relentlessly quarrelling?

In the famous words of Marie Antoinette: "Let them eat cake."

Or cupcakes, for that matter!

In honor of election season, Sprinkles Cupcakes has begun a new "Pay it Forward" campaign that allows senators and representatives to send one box of cupcakes to another Congress member for free.

The catch? It has to be sent to an opposing party member.

We think it's a cute way to bring everyone together during a rather stressful time so, go ahead, Congress members: email to make someone's day a little sweeter.

DiD yOu KnOw? ... If you're not working on the Hill, but you'd still love to show your political colors with Sprinkles, you may order an election box during the month of October. Choose from Obama, Romney or Vote-themed treats,

President Obama Jets Off To Party With Beyoncé & Jay-Z In NYC

obama dance 2012 09 18

We hope President Obama packed his dancing shoes for his trip to New York this week.

The POTUS joined the fabulous "First Couple" of the music world, Beyoncé and Jay-Z, for a fundraiser at Jay's 40/40 club.

Tickets for the 100-person event were $40,000 each, so you already know the intimate event was incredibly swanky.

However, there were no reports of the POTUS making cute faces at baby Blue Ivy.

She's old enough to hit the clubs now, right?

DiD yOu KnOw? ... Not only was this event fancy, it had some serious swag appeal going for it. We heard there was an 18-foot tower of Armand de Brignac champagne -- that's $800-dollar-a-bottle bubbly, in case you didn't know.

Nancy Pelosi: 'Everybody Knows' GOP Candidate Mitt Romney Won’t Be President

We’re neck-deep in the campaign rhetoric and all pretense of cordiality is officially out the window.
Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi didn’t even bother with niceties during her CNN State of the Union interview.

“Oh, Mitt Romney’s not going to be president of the United States … I think everybody knows that,” she said.
Oh, do they? Guess Pelosi sees something Americans don’t in the mere 3% lead Obama has on Romney in the polls.

Can you fill us in on your insider info, Nancy? Because it seems as if we’ve got a race.
