When I was little, I thought that if I typed "hello world," then my computer would talk back.
I'd sit and wait for hours, typing it again and again in different languages -- because I didn't know the difference between computer laguages and French, Spanish, etc., back then -- waiting for my very own R2D2 to come to life.
Well, now it's 2011 and my computer still can't talk. But, thanks to the guys at Supermechanical (two cute MIT Media Lab grads) ... I might be able to talk to my gadgets soon.
They've developed Twine, which allows you to connect to household machines via WiFi.
This is actual human-machine interaction, folks. (Finally!)
You can program it to text you when the doorbell rings, and to buzz you when your dishwasher is done. In the future, your house will be able to send you a text message through Twine when your basement is about to flood. (Hey! That's almost like talking!)
Thank you, Supermechanical for making my dreams a virtual reality.
"Hello world!" "Привет мир!" "¡Hola, mundo!" "Bonjour tout le monde!"

We're feeling a little bit conflicted about Adele today.
We've seen her tour rider and, we have to say, it's both awesome and kind of terrible at the same time (take a look at it, below).
The awesome part is, anyone who receives free concert tickets -- provided by anyone, including Adele herself -- must make a charitable donation of at least $20 when they pick up their tickets at the box office. The money then must go to Sands, a charity "supporting anyone affected by the death of a baby and promoting research to reduce the loss of babies’ lives."
But, on the other hand, Adele wants beer and wine, but only the "very best quality" wine ... and, no, "North American beer is NOT acceptable." This wouldn't be too terrible if she didn't also give Becks, Stella and Peroni as examples of "best quality European lager."
There's nothing we love more than seeing our favorite celebs bonding -- and, finding out what they love to drink!
Josh Groban is taking over co-hosting duties on the set of "Live! With Kelly" for the rest of the week. (The show has been booking celeb talent to fill in Regis Philbin's empty chair since he left.)
And, it looks like Josh and Kelly Ripa were getting cozy today on set, as they guzzled down some delicious Guinness beers, and then tweeted about how much they love each others' company (photo, below.)
Don't they look adorable, folks? We think you may have found your permanent new co-host, Kelly!
Actress Jennifer Love Hewitt must've been having a bad hair day.
Yesterday, in Los Angeles, she either didn't feel up to dealing with photographers or she didn't want people to know she was seeing a guy who wears nerd glasses -- so she hid her head with her sweater.
It's OK, Jennifer, this happens to us all the time. Nevertheless, you still look hot.
Actress Jane Fonda was spotted in NYC, sporting the peace sign as she left Anderson Cooper's new talk show, 'Anderson,' this week.
A controversial Vietnam War activist in the 1970s, Jane helped to form the FTA tour -- "Free The Army," a play on the troop expression "Fuck The Army" -- which was an anti-war road show designed as an answer to Bob Hope's USO tour. (We're guessing she flipped the peace sign a lot back then as well.)
Earlier in the day, on the "The Today Show," the 73-year-old also showed off her hot body and proved she also still has her workout skills by flaunting a replica of a striped leotard that she made famous in her "Jane Fonda Workout" videos in the '80s.
Actor John Stamos and Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan hosted this year's "Christmas Concert For The Troops" Tuesday night.
The annual holiday concert, in honor of active duty military, also featured the National Symphony Orchestra and a performance by Lorrie Morgan. Lorrie sang three songs -- including the holiday classic “My Favorite Things,” as well as “America The Beautiful” with Tony Award Winner John Lloyd Young (current cast member of The Jersey Boys).
Marlee Matlin, who was also at the concert, also performed -- along with The Beach Boys and Mr. Stamos.
The event, which was held at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall in Washington, D.C., was an invitation-only celebration held in gratitude and recognition of the men and women who serve our country.
Everyone knows that wherever Justin Bieber goes, a flock a girls is sure to follow.
But, what about the Bieb's guy fans?
It's not like guys are gonna chase after him. And, it's not like they're going to send TwitPics to him, either. So, what's a guy, who thinks Justin Bieber is a great music artist, to do?
Leon (a.k.a. @jpmay3) has the answer: Trending Day.
Earlier this year, Leon posted a YouTube video of himself on a whim, asking Justin to come to his June 2012 junior prom to hang out with him and his friends. He expected to get about 1,000 hits on it. Instead, he got tweets, emails and around 73,000 views (as of today).
And all of that got him to thinking ... maybe Justin really should come to his school's prom to show all of his male fans that he likes spending time with them, too? Heck, he could even bring Selena Gomez along, if he'd like, and they could do a double date.
"I haven't seen him do that many things for his guy fans," Leon told Glittarazzi Tuesday, "and Justin Bieber said to 'follow your dreams' and 'never say never -- so, why not?"
So after coming up with a platform, presenting it to his guidance counselor via PowerPoint, and getting his New Jersey high school's seal of approval, Leon has been making some moves. He and his friends formed a committee [@NSNcommittee], started selling t-shirts to help fund the cause, and made solid plans to take over Twitter on Dec. 27 at 12:01 a.m.
On that day, USA high school students will be on holiday break -- with next to nothing else to do -- so, it's the perfect time to tag their tweets with #GuyAsksJustinBieberToPromOnYouTube so it will trend. Then, when it becomes a top-trending topic on Twitter, @JustinBieber himself will hopefully see it, accept the invitation and make it OK for male Beliebers to blast JB songs across the nation!
Wow, Leon! You and the NSNcommittee have done an incredible job with this. We're totally in!

We Heart The Men Of The Occupy Movement: When we heard officials were thinking about evicting the Occupy activists in Washington, D.C., we hopped in our car and hightailed it to McPherson Square. Nobody is going to take our future husbands away from us -- especially before Valentine's Day.
