Neo Rides Again: Keanu Reeves' Motorcycle Start-Up To Launch Next Year

alt

We gotta admit, we love a man on a motorcycle.

And actor/cycle-enthusiast Keanu Reeves has partnered with LA County Choprods Gard Hollinger to fulfill that need.

What started as a custom pet project for Keanu turned into a full-fledged company five years later with the creation of the Arch KR GT-1, a two-wheeler with exposed guts and chrome and gold/bronze finishes.

Arch Motorcycles launches next year -- and the promo video looks a little like it was shot by a local insurance company, but, hey, we can forgive that.

Hey Keanu, going our way?

'Angry Birds Star Wars Day' Is Coming To A Smart Phone Near You (Think Nov. 8)

angry birds star wars 2012 10 08

What's better than Angry Birds in space?

Angry Birds in space ... as the characters of "Star Wars."

Freaking out yet?

You should be -- because not only will the game adopt the settings of the movies (Launch a Luke Skywalker bird around Tattooine? Yes, please.), it will also be launching incredibly soon, on Nov. 8.

We hope they're ready to keep the app from crashing on launch day, because we would hate to have to do real work on "Angry Birds Star Wars Day," wouldn't you?

DiD yOu KnOw? ... Angry Birds might seem like a silly smart phone game, but the folks behind it are actually all about using popularity for good. The creators decided to celebrate "Freddie For A Day" -- an annual event on Freddie Mercury's birthday to raise money for the AIDS charity that exists in his name -- this year by immortalizing the celebrated Queen frontman in the form of an Angry Bird. Check out the video for it,

Listen Up, Ladies!: 'The Daily Show' Co-Creator Goes Anti-Todd Akin In New PSA

lizz winstead 2012 10 08

Listen up, ladies!

"The Daily Show" Co-Creator Lizz Winstead wants you to get in touch with your feminine side -- by fighting against some of the sillier things that politicians have said about female reproductive rights, and some of the legislation that has passed concerning them.

Like that time Todd Akin talked about "legitimate rape," or when Sen. Roy Blunt proposed allowing employers the choice to opt-out of offering their employees health coverage -- if their employees used the coverage to get birth control.

Ladies, it's time to take control of your va-jay-jays. Otherwise, as Lizz so succinctly explains, "we're f**ked."

Watch the video, below, and read Lizz's argument, here.

Smartphones Are So Cheap They're Now Being Used In High-Tech Magazine Ads

cheapphone 2012 10 8

If you still don't have a smartphone, you can no longer use the "they're too pricey" argument.

Why? Because they're now using smartphones in advertising inserts for magazines.

To promote a couple of its new TV shows, the CW network created an advertising page, in which it placed 1,000 copies of the latest issue of the "Entertainment Weekly." The ad features a video screen, which plays clips from the shows "Arrow" and "Emily Owens, M.D," also cuts away to Twitter to show people talking about the shows in real time (in other words, it's hooked up to the web).

Some enterprising and curious tech bloggers decided to figure just what kind of gadgetry was running this marketing miracle. They then discovered that the underneath that LCD screen, speaker, and 3G connection was the remnants of an ABO smartphone that retails for a little over $80. It seems that it was cheaper to buy a bunch of smartphones and tear them down, reprogram them, then jam them into an insert than to build the ad tech from scratch.

That's right, we've now reached the point were we're using stripped down smartphones as magazine ads.

Seriously, ditch the Nokia brick and just buy one already.

Rise Of The Terminators: Self-Piloting Drones Are Coming To The U.S. Military

drone 2012 10 3

Maybe it's because of our love of movies, but we have a bad feeling about this.

According to reports, the U.S. Military has begun developing and testing self-piloting drones.

Be warned, people! The robot revolt is almost here!

Let us explain. Currently, one the American military's greatest advantages in the war on terror is its arsenal of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), also known as drones. UAVs are basically giant remote-controlled airplanes that pilots on the ground fly. They're used to keep tabs on possible terrorists, lend a bird's eye view for troops on the ground, and even fire hellfire missiles.

And now, the military is getting them to think for themselves.

To be fair, the proposed new models wouldn't be of the killing kind. Their duties would be focused on lending support for vehicles piloted by people, which would still be the ones making the combat strikes. But one prominent robot scientist, Ronald Arkin, who used to work on the U.S. drone program and now teaches at Georgia Tech, thinks that it's only a matter of time before computer-controlled drones are allowed to kill in combat.

And, when that happens ... the machine vs. human war is on.

Would You Pay $750 To Design Your Very Own Pair Of Levi’s Jeans?

alt

How much would you pay to craft your own pair of jeans?

Let’s face it: there’s nothing more valuable than your favorite pair of jeans, right? They’re slimming, comfortable, they make your booty pop and they add just the right amount of swag to your ensemble.

That’s why Levi’s is betting you’ll spend big bucks to design your own pair of jeans at their NYC meatpacking district location. Hypebeast reports the custom denim will cost between $450 and $750 and will take two weeks to complete. (In case you were wondering, a regular pair costs around $100.)

Hey, you can pick your material and your grommets, but you can’t pick your price.

Creepy Trend Alert: Here's The Vest That Might 'Like' You A Little Too Much

like vest 2012 10 04

You know what's creepy?

A vest that gives you a squeeze every time you get a "like" on Facebook.

So, why does this thing actually exist?

Blame it on the bored researchers over at the MIT Media Lab who thought it would be fun if you could get a hug whenever someone likes that silly picture of a cat wearing human clothes that you just posted on your timeline. The Like-A-Hug also allows the wearer to send a hug back when the wearer squeezes and deflates the vest.

Temple Grandin hug theory or not, we're fans of getting our hugs in person, so if you're trying to figure out what to buy Team Glittarazzi for the holidays ... this is definitely not it!

Learn more about the Like-A-Hug, here.

DiD yOu KnOw? ... Temple Grandin -- a well-known American doctor of animal science -- discovered in her research that the sensation of being squeezed helps calm down people who are hyper-sensitive, specifically those with autism spectrum disorders. It's pretty fascinating stuff and, you can read more about it, here.

Stranger Than Fiction: The Great Canadian Maple Syrup Caper

maplesyrup 2012 10 4

Canada doesn't strike us, or most others, as having that much of a criminal side.

But, a recent heist has rocked our friendly neighbors in the north to the very core -- its maple syrup core, that is.

According to reports, some sticky thieves made off with the liquid gold from a distribution center about a hundred miles outside of Montreal back in August. The bandits covered their tracks by siphoning out 16,000 45-gallon drums, filling up a tanker truck, and leaving the empty barrels.

If you don't have a calculator handy that's 720,000 gallons of pilfered maple syrup. And if you wondering what's the big deal, the value of that much delicious (and pure) pancake topper is worth about $20 million.

Thankfully, Royal Mounted Police recovered the stolen syrup last week in Kedgwick, more than 300 miles from where it was stolen. But, no one was arrested.

Did the mastermind behind the great maple syrupy robbery of 2012 get away?

David Beckham Gets Caught With His Pants Down In The Woods (Literally)

beckham undies 2012 10 03

Some lucky bastards touring Beverly Hills got quite the eyeful this week when their tour bus came upon an almost entirely naked David Beckham.

What was David doing walking around in his boxer briefs?

Oh, just modelling for his new H&M underwear line -- because H&M loves women and realizes that all we really want to do is stare at David's perfectly sculpted abs.

The soccer star, meanwhile, got a little bashful and tried to run away from the onlookers (but not before they were able to snag some pics of his fine butt).

Yeah, we said it. There isn't any shame in loving something that beautiful.

DiD yOu KnOw? ... David isn't just a beautiful soccer-playing man -- He also does plenty of charity work for some great causes, such as UNICEF, Malaria No More, and M.L.S. Works.

Getting Tired Of That 'Gangnam Style' Song? Try The Mitt Romney Version

mitt gangnam style 2012 10 03

Heyyy, wealthy ladies!

We can't stop LOL-ing at the new College Humor video that parodies the ever-popular "Gangnam Style" by inserting a fake Mitt Romney into it.

And, we figure this video came to us right on time, since we were actually starting to (gasp!) get a little sick of listening to that song over and over.

However, we will never get tired of watching fake Mitt "dress classy and dance trashy," as Psy himself explained to Ellen DeGeneres.

Need a laugh to help get you through the work week? Check out the video, below.

DiD yOu KnOw? ... Need more political Gangnam Style? Never fear! There's an Obama version you can check out, here.

Staten Island Is Building A Ferris Wheel To Get Your Money … And Respect

alt

What do London and Staten Island have in common?

Nothing, yet.

But, the New York City borough is planning on building its own taller version of the ">London Eye to suck in some of the tourists from the mainland. The 625-foot-tall Ferris wheel will carry 1,440 passengers at a time and cost $230 million to build.

And the residents also hope the wheel’s presence in 2015 will change the perspective outsiders have on them, largely thanks to local celebrities like Jersey Shore’s Vinny Guadagnino and Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino.

Seriously?!

We’ve always considered those two the thinking men of the reality entertainment world.

'Harry Potter' Author J.K. Rowling Drops The Wizard Talk & Gets A Little Political

jk rowling 2012 09 27

Just where does British Author J.K. Rowling stand on American politics?

In a "Nightline" interview, she explained that she sides with President Obama's "you didn't build it" ideology.

According to J.K., she worked hard to become the success that she is today, but she really couldn't have done it without the help she received from others -- like the free education and health care provided by British government.

"I am proud of having done what I've done. Very proud," she explained. "But, I do take issue -- and this does go to the heart of this book, which is why I have to say it with anyone who truly feels it's a 100% down to them."

Who says J.K. Rowling can only talk about wizards and muggles, huh?

DiD yOu KnOw? ... J.K.'s first-ever novel for adults -- "The Casual Vacancy" -- is finally here! Order it online at Amazon.
