MLK Google Doodle Is A Hit + Follow In The King's Footsteps By Volunteering [TRENDS]

mlk 2012 01 16

Google celebrated MLK day with a Google Doodle by children's author and artist Faith Ringgold [@FaithRinggold].

And, we love it!

Martin Luther King, Jr.'s dream was an important one which continues to be relevant today.

In honor of MLK day, some of us did some volunteer work. If you need something to do, here are some ways you can help out in your community:

And, if you're in Washington, D.C., why not take some time to check out the new Martin Luther King memorial?

Miss America: Is It Just Us, Or Do These Chicks Keep Getting Dumb & Dumber?

Screen shot_2012-01-15_at_2.19.24_AM

There's nothing that annoys us more than an egotistical girl with a pageant crown on her head.

But, we just discovered something sans tiaras that much worse: dumb, ghetto-fabulous (and just plain cheesy) promo videos, which were approved by the Miss America Organization, to hype up the big event.

Uh, what was the inspiration for this ... Jersey Shore? These girls do not look like role models representing a scholarship competition.

Incredible pageant #fail.

Hey, Spring Breakers! Tired Of Cancun? Try SXSW! That's Right, Texas! [TRAVEL]

sxsw 2012_01_12

If you're tired of the same old, same old (getting-wasted-in-Mexico) spring break trip ... why not try something new this year?

We're thinking: Go to Texas!

No, seriously.

South by Southwest, a.k.a. SXSW, is where all the creative minds go in March for a week of crazy-fun times in Austin, Tx.

Even if you're not willing to pay the somewhat steep prices of the actual events, there are plenty of freebies. And, while SXSW is famous for bringing together new musical talent that you've probably never heard of before (yeah, that's right: time to get your hipster on), they also have movie screenings and parties with all the fun celebs.

For example, this year, you can check out Talib Kweli; then you can catch the new Joss Whedon flick; and then, when you're ready to make tabloid headlines, you can crash Perez Hilton's party!

Yep. Forget Mexico. Texas sounds fabulous!

Big Mac Attack: Mini Apple Stores Coming To A Target Near You [SHOPPING]

apple store_2012_01_12

Need an Apple store - STAT?

Well, if you've got a Target nearby, you're in luck!

Mini Apple stores will be opening up inside Targets. While we're not sure if that will include all of the products and services that come with the full Apple store, we're still excited. The lack of Apple stores is one of the greatest #ThirdWorldProblems in our opinion.

We're also hoping for a squad of cute Apple techs to invade our local Target stores. (Hey! Girls can dream, can't they?)

Actor Seth Green Says ... Don't Forget About Haiti Earthquake Survivors [CHARITY]

haiti earthquake_2012_01_12

We remember the devastating 2010 earthquake in Haiti like it was yesterday.

So, we were really inspired when Actor Seth Green reminded us that the Haitians still need our help.

He tweeted that he continues to help out through Aid Still Required, which is a great cause -- especially since the number of Haitian orphans has doubled since the earthquake happened.

Thanks, Seth!

@TextbookLand Brings You Less Expensive Books For School Via Twitter [RETWEETABLES]

textbooks 2012_01_11

Fear not, college students!

With the integration of TextbookLand and Twitter, the Internet just made it a whole lot easier for you to stop spending a gazillion bucks on your school books.

TextbookLand is a website that compares prices for books in all the online stores, kind of like Kayak, but for school.

Now, all you have to do is tweet @TextbookLand the ISBN number for the book you need, and the book bot will send you a link to the least expensive version it can find.

Pretty sweet, huh?

Twitter Livestreams Tiesto: Were People Partying Home Alone-Style? [SOCIAL MEDIA]

tiesto 2012_01_11

We're big fans of DJ Tiesto.

In fact, we love blasting his music in our cars while we zip to and from meetings.

But, we always do it in the company of our friends, which makes Twitter's idea to livestream a Tiesto concert kind of weird.

We can just imagine how it must have gone down: hundreds, if not thousands, of Tiesto fans rolling on Ecstasy in their apartments all alone as they bop around to the sweet sounds of electronica. (For the record, we don't do drugs, but we've seen people allegedly on them. #freaky)

Nevertheless, we hope you tuned into the concert. It was the first time that Twitter has ever livestreamed a show of this kind -- and, we really hope they'll continue the project!

Photos: Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt Do DC Premiere Of 'In The Land Of Blood And Honey'

BradAngelina20110112
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt popped by Washington, D.C., for the premiere of her film, "In the Land of Blood and Honey," this week at the Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Angie wore a Michael Kors coat on the red carpet. Her dress was from The Way We Wore vintage store in Los Angeles, and her shoes were Christian Louboutin. Meanwhile, Brad's suit was from one of his faves: Tom Ford.

Our "Man On The Street" John McLean caught the duo signing autographs (below); and "Top Photographer" Greg Blakey caught their red carpet moments on Tout (watch: arrival | posing).

After the premiere, the duo dined in a private room at Charlie Palmer Steak. Then, they returned to their Georgetown hotel: the Ritz Carlton.

This is the most hotness our Nation's Capital's seen in quite some time.

The Internet Gets Even More 'Big Brother' Creepy - Prepare To Be Googled [PRIVACY]

google 2012_01_10

As if the website couldn't get any better, Google is making things even easier for you by realllllly personalizing your searches.

How are they planning to do it?

Oh, just by taking the personal information they find in your Gmail; in your comments; and in photos you have on Google+ to find out what you really want.

This information will allow them to give you search results that are actually relevant. So, when you search "shoe shopping" on Google ... it'll prioritize store links for you that it might not for your friends.

This is all sounding just a little bit too conveniently creepy to us.

But, can we really complain when it means that it's going to be a hell of a lot easier finding those heels we're so in love with?

Probably not.

'Tebow-Mania' Hits The 2012 GOP Presidential Election Via Donald Trump [TWEETS]

tebow 2012_01_10

If you follow Donald Trump's Twitter account (@realDonaldTrump), then you are probably familiar with the advice he is constantly doling out to both President Obama and all of the GOP presidential candidates.

So, we thought it was funny to see -- in the midst of a long-winded rant about the POTUS and the New Hampshire primary -- that Donald randomly tweeted about football star Tim Tebow and his success.

Though he didn't outright tweet the message to any politicos, we're guessing he's trying to explain the secret of success to all the candidates who are fighting for the presidency this year.

Yep, folks ... Tebow-Mania is getting so hot, even the Donald is getting in on the action.
