Socialites Prefer GOP Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney

socialite-2012-05-16

It's official: socialites love Mitt Romney.

Team Glittarazzi conducted an unscientific poll this week and came to the conclusion that hot 'n' social gals in Washington, D.C., and NYC are all about the GOP presidential candidate.

We walked around Georgetown, a preppy area frequented by socialites in our Nation's Capital, and simply asked, "Barack Obama or Mitt Romney?", and got an overwhelming 80% approval rating and adoration for Mitt.

Then, we polled Tinsley Mortimer -- a NYC socialite, fashion designer, reality star and author of the new book, "Southern Charm" -- who took a moment to chat with us while on her book tour, which was sponsored by HPNOTIQ.

When asked which candidate she thinks is the hottest, she quickly said, "Romney."

He definitely does have some great suits, some great hair and a great bank account -- which are all necessary for fitting in with high-society types.

So, what do you think, Mitt ... afternoon tea with the Glittarazzi girls and some of our closest social gal pals?

Icy Hot: Did Nats Lose Game Because Stephen Strasburg's ‘Fire Down Below’?

stasburg 2012 5 15

We're not sure if you've been watching this season of the Nationals so far, but they're pretty good.

(Yes, we're talking about the Washington Nationals, the baseball team).

They currently have one of the best records in baseball, which pretty much everyone attributes to their fierce pitching staff. And -- without a doubt -- the star pitcher is Stephen Stasburg. The 23-year-old right-hander has been dominating this year and the team has won every game he's pitched ... until now.

On Tuesday, Stephen had his worst start of the season, giving up four runs in four innings against the San Diego Padres, who ended up winning the game 6-1. But after the game, word got out that maybe there were mitigating factors in Stephen's performance.

"I can't really tell you what the problem was, but some Hot Stuff got misplaced," Nats Manager Davey Johnson told reporters after the game. For those unfamiliar with it, Davey is referring to "Mueller Hot Stuff Ointment," which is like super-powerful "Bengay" or "Icy Hot."

"It was on his shoulder and evidently -- I don't know how it got to where it got, but it was uncomfortable, to say the least," Davey said.

Ouch!

Early theories were that the "fire down below" was a prank gone wrong, but now everyone is pretty much of the opinion that a mix of rain and sweat washed some down to where it shouldn't have been.

Understandably, Stephen was a little annoyed that Davey told the press about his, uh, discomfort during the game.

"I'm not one to make excuses," he said in the locker room. "It's just one of those games where you go out there and do your best to overcome the obstacles."

That's a great sentiment and all, Stephen, but seriously ... ouch!

'Gorilla Beach': 'Jersey Shore' Star Snooki Gets Published ... Again!

 snookie-05-14-12

Shnooks is back!

And, this time, she’s leaving that leopard-skinned, hard-drinking "Jersey Shore" persona behind -- no more randos, catfights, drunken arrests and dramatic tears.

Just kidding! She knows better than that.

The recently minted author of 2011’s "A Shore Thing" has already blessed us with her second masterpiece, "Gorilla Beach," another foray into the juicehead-heavy Seaside life we already see every Thursday. This time, though, Snooki’s protagonists get the furry boot from Seaside Heights, spending the summer hitting the tables in Atlantic City instead.

Tagline: ‘When you’re this smokin’, winning is a shore thing. ...”

INDEED. Get ready to party your panties off!

Q&A: Socialite Tinsley Mortimer Applies Some Of Her ‘Southern Charm’ To The World Of Literature

 tinsley-mortimer-2012-05-16

Beautiful Blonde Belle Tinsley Mortimer is known for her defiantly Southern style and Big-Apple socialite status, but now she has a new title to add to her resume: author.

The fashion designer and former reality show star (of the CW’s "High Society") first proposed a style guide to her publishers, but they instead propositioned her for a novel.

Out of that came "Southern Charm," the tale of Minty Davenport, a new college grad who skips out on the South in favor of the glittery streets of NYC. Sound familiar? We’re betting the Virginia native fell back on her own experiences for material. But why shouldn’t she? Her high-heeled rise to fashion and fame was tailor-made for reprint.

This week, we caught up with Tinsley on her book tour, which was sponsored by HPNOTIQ, to discuss New York, charity and staying true to your roots.

Q&A: TINSLEY MORTIMER APPLIES SOME OF HER "SOUTHERN CHARM" TO THE WORLD OF LITERATURE

You have a clothing and handbag line in Japan, what was your inspiration behind that?

"I design handbags and clothing that I like to wear. I get inspired by a lot of things. New York City and all the stylish people that live here are the most inspiring. My Spring/Summer 2012 collection is a little bohemian with fringe and was inspired by a previous collection with fringe that was so popular. I have gold, and bright pink fringe clutches, and my favorite is a big tote bag named the Sienna (after the super chic Sienna Miller). Its great for day and you can carry everything. It also serves as a perfect chic travel bag, as well."

Do you have any favorite trends for the summer?

"I am totally loving the colored jeans for summer -- I want them in every shade! Being a Southern girl, I prefer to wear color and can't remember when I wore black, so this trend is perfect for me!  Alice and Olivia has the most amazing colored jeans and even a floral pattern that I really want!"

Can you tell us a little bit about your new book, "Southern Charm?" How did you come up with the idea?

"I originally planned to write a style guide about how to dress like a girly girl, but it was the suggestion of several publishers that I write a novel, instead. They thought that the backdrop of the world I know so well in New York would be perfect for a great story. After the suggestion was made, everything just clicked! Writing a fictional story gives you a lot of freedom. Creating characters that you can make do and say whatever you want was a lot of fun. "Southern Charm" gives you access into the glamorous world of New York through the eyes of an outsider Southern girl, Minty Davenport. I wrote the book with everything I knew from my Southern upbringing.  At first, I was an outsider, but quickly I became an insider by being myself and embracing my Southern style and heritage.  This honesty was recognized and appreciated. ... I chose to be me, and not change for what might have been expected of me."

You've been involved in some television shows, such as "Gossip Girl" and "High Society." Are there other celebrities would you love to work alongside?

"Being on 'Gossip Girl' was so much fun and it was so flattering that I played myself and was written into the script. I didn't do a scene with Blake Lively which I would have adored. I also think doing anything with Reese Witherspoon or SJP would be amazing!"

You grew up in Virginia, close to our Nation's Capital. What are some your favorite places to check out in Washington, D.C?

"Growing up in Richmond, there weren't that many places to shop, so I have such fond memories of taking trips with my mom and sister to Tysons Corner. We would always have such fabulous girl trips there and buy really cute clothes. As an adult, I don't really know the area so well, but Georgetown is really cool--I loved Nectar Skin Bar, where we just held my D.C. event. I hosted The Front Row at Bethesda Row a few years ago (I heard Andy Cohen is hosting this year!) that was a blast. I think DC girls have the perfect mixture of a little Southern charm and a little Northern sophistication. I am a New Yorker now, but I could see myself living in D.C.

If you had to choose, who would you say is hotter? Obama or Mitt Romney?

Romney.

What causes are close to your heart?

"I am a National Ambassador for the American Humane Association. I help to promote pet adoption and work with them on their Second Chance Fund, helping neglected and abused animals by raising money to get the medical attention they need to be rehabilitated and then get them adopted into a loving home giving them a second chance at life. I adopted a precious baby myself from a shelter ... my most adorable loving Bambi, who is seven years old."

What are some of your beauty must haves for a night out on the town?

  • Dior Show Blackout Mascara
  • Nars eye shadow in Key Largo
  • Lip gloss (Dior Tinsley Pink)
  • Diorissimo Perfume by Dior. (My mother wore this when I was a child. I loved it then, and I love it now. Cannot imagine wearing anything else!!!

As a socialite, what advice can you give to young girls who look up to you?

"Always be yourself. Don't follow trends. Wear what makes you feel like you. I believe in putting out positive energy and being kind to others always. Never try to "get even" with people who have hurt you. Forgive them and recognize that they might be hurting and angry. This will free you to be the person God intended you to be."

What's your poison (vodka, champagne, gin)? What's your drink of choice?
The Southern charm, of course! It is a combination of champagne and HPNOTIQ Harmonie. So girly and sweet! I LOVE it!!!

What is the one mobile app you can't live without?
I have a BlackBerry, but I really want an iPhone -- just for Instagram! I am going to get one soon! I am so jealous of how cool the pictures turn out.

Vegas Magician Penn Jillette's Red Nail Polish Has A Heartwarming Meaning

 penn-2012-05-13

If you’ve ever looked at the left ring finger of Penn Jillette, the "larger, louder more than ½ (by weight)" of the Vegas mainstay Penn & Teller (eccentric magicians with a psychotic twist), you might have noticed something a little ... different.

The 6’7” actor and recent "Celebrity Apprentice" contestant paints the one fingernail red, the same finger on which he wears his father’s ring.

He’s told this story before, of course, but people keep pestering him about it.

"People asking about my red fingernail. It's for my mom. I wear my dad's ring and my mom's nail polish. It reminds me of them. Momma's boy," he tweeted Monday.

But is that the whole truth? Might the “jelly apple red” nail polish hold some supernatural staying powers for the legendary duo in the cutthroat world of showbiz?

Penn’s children have decidedly superhero names as well, which can only mean one thing: five-year-old Zolten Penn and six-year-old Moxie CrimeFighter are set to inherit their father’s abilities one day.

As Paula Abdul Leaves, Demi Lovato Joins Britney Spears On 'The X Factor'

britney demi 2012 05 14

Demi Lovato and Britney Spears announced today that they're joining Simon Cowell and Music Exec L.A. Reid as judges on "The X Factor."

We're super excited about this -- mainly since Britney has kept things pretty much on the down-low lately, and we haven't been hearing much from Demi.

We'll definitely miss Paula Abdul but, let's be honest: Britney has the key to our hearts.

Did you know...? Demi Lovato used to be a "Barney and Friends" star, alongside Selena Gomez! Check out one of their clips, ">here.

Going For A Run In The UK? Try Raising Funds For Charity While You're At It!

beckham hope 2012 05 14

If you're planning on going for a run, you might be able to do some good for other people -- while doing good for your body.

The new Samsung "Hope Relay" app is free to download on your smart phone. It tracks your mileage as you run, bike, rollerblade, or do any sort of physical activity that doesn't go over 18 mph. Then, for every mile you go, £1 will be donated to a deserving charity.

Now, we know you're wondering why we're using the pound (£) symbol. It's because the app is going live in the UK, Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Hungary, Poland, Siberia, Russia, Brazil, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Croatia, China, Hong Kong and Vietnam! For some reason, it's not being launched in the USA. However, it will run until the beginning of the Summer Olympics in London.

We may not use pounds -- or even know how much a pound is actually worth -- but, come on, Samsung! We'd love to donate our legs, too!

Learn more about the app, here.

Did you know? ... You can donate a stitch to the flag that the U.S. Olympic Committee will carry in London -- and, raise funds for the team by doing so! Learn more, here.

Creeptown: New Klik App Recognizes All Your Friends' Faces

klik 2012 05 10

While we're not really into the hours it seems to take to tag all of our friends in our photos, but this might be taking things a little too far.

Klik, a new app for your iPhone, uses facial recognition software to "quickly tag your Facebook friends in real-time."

The concept is cool -- but, also, kind of creepy.

We don't want the robots to know what we look like when they decide to take over. We've been talking way too much smack about them.

When Crime Happens, Watch Out For Miami Marlins Pitcher Brett Hayes' Curveball Tweets

brett-hayes-2012-05-10-b

When crime happens, you can count on Miami Marlins Pitcher Brett Hayes ... to live tweet it.

The baseballer was sitting in traffic on Florida’s Turnpike in Broward County when an armed suspect walked by his vehicle. Afterward, he heard on the radio that a man with a high-powered weapon had just been firing bullets as he walked on the highway's median.

So, he did what any loyal resident of the Twittersphere would do: he tweeted (see below).

Now, if you don't think that's a freaky moment in Twitter history, then we have some fab Sunshine-State swampland we'd like to sell ya.

Did You Know? ... America's most aggressive drivers are in Miami, Fla. The other four cities rounding out the top five include New York City, Boston, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. The cities with the most courteous drivers? Portland, Ore., Pittsburgh, Seattle/Tacoma, St. Louis and Dallas/Fort Worth. [source: AutoAdvantage.com]

What Is Love?: Washington Kastles Coach Murphy Jensen Schools Glittarazzi On Tennis

CoachMurphy20120510-3-2

When we heard that Washington Kastles Coach Murphy Jensen was hosting a Bloomberg "kids tennis clinic" to get children more interested in the sport.

So, we thought, if kids can do it ... so can we.

Big mistake.

Apparently, kids aren't the only ones that need schooling. But, Coach Murphy got Glittarazzi Co-Founder Ali Lewis up to speed by giving her some quick tips on her tennis game.

And, as you see (above), she passed with flying colors, which wasn't a surprise since just about every player on the Washington Kastles team is going to the 2012 Olympics in London!

Trendspotting: We Think The New Neckid 'Joey' Purse Is Amazeballs

joey 2012_03_21

OK. We'll admit it.

When we first heard about purses you hang around your neck, we thought it was kind of ridiculous. Of course, we were envisioning a tourist neck-wallet kind of thing.

Then, we saw the it!

The "Joey" Neckid Pouch is definitely NOT a gross tourist neck-wallet. It's an adorable little bag that you can stealthily either hide under your dress or flaunt when you want to go partying (or just don't want to hassle of a purse).

Just clip the Joey onto a layered necklace ... and voila! ... instant fabulousness!

Want a Joey? We're giving one away! Learn more about Neckid here -- and then tweet us (@glittarazzi) and tell us why you must have your very own cotton-candy hued @neckidpouch! We'll pick a winner on May 20, 2012!
