PETA Protests Mistreatment Of Bulls Outside Embassy Of India In Washington, DC

Who: PETA pupporters and "Injured Bull"
What: Led by a costumed "injured bull," three PETA members stood outside the Embassy of India with signs reading, "Save India's Reputation: End Jallikattu," in English, Tamil and Hindi. The protesters are calling on the Indian government to enforce the national ban against using bulls as performing animals. Despite the national ban, the Madras High Court recently permitted Tamil Nadu to continue jallikattu, an allegedly cruel and dangerous "sport" in which bulls are kicked, punched, jumped on and dragged to the ground -- human participants are often injured and even killed as well. "Jallikattu is a black mark on India’s reputation," says PETA India's Poorva Joshipura. "These events are illegal—they violate the ban on using bulls in 'entertainment' and are completely against the spirit of India's animal-protection laws, which prohibit beating, kicking, and torturing animals."
When: Wednesday, Jan. 25
Where: In front of the Embassy of India - Washington, D.C.
Why: To stop the violence against animals.
