Ron Paul’s candidacy for POTUS has been one of the more, shall we say, "interesting stories" to come out of the race for Republican nomination.
Despite almost no coverage from the media -- and the almost little-to-none seriousness taken by GOP leadership in considering Ron as a potential candidate -- the Texas congressman is still able to pull in decent numbers in polling. And, it’s not just Republicans that like Ron. A lot of Independents, Libertarians, and even some Democrats, are taking a shine to him.
So, it’s no surprise that there’s talk of Ron running as a third-party candidate.
Well, hold your horses, cause Ron says that ain’t happening ... sort of.
When asked point blank about it, Ron said: "I’ve have no plans whatsoever to do it." He then admitted that if he did run as a third-party candidate, it might split the GOP vote and create problems -- though he was quick to point out that Ronald Reagan overcame running against a Republican-turned-Independent candidate, John Anderson, in 1980. (He did seem to forget Ross Perot’s effect on the 1992 election). Oh, and then when someone on Fox News asked him to make a pledge that he will not run as an independent candidate, he said, "I pledge that I have no intention of doing it."
Um, it seems like Ronny is hedging his bets, no?
