Party Time. Excellent.

March 2nd, 2009 -

There are lots of parties in D.C. (No, I’m not talking about the political kind.) And this weekend, the hot soiree spot was Midtown.

Believe it or not, this Friday was the first time I’d ever rocked it out at Midtown, which is a trendy little club opened by the Michael Romeo Group last year in the Dupont Circle space that used to house Play Lounge. And, yes, just like the Midtown website says, “Play time is over.”

But the fun has just begun. … I love what they’ve done with the place:

  • ORIGINAL SPIN: Drunk much? No worries. Gone is the day when tipsy clubgoers would fall into Play’s DJ booth upon entering and exiting. The spinning at Midtown takes place where God intended … off the drunken path.
  • LIVING LARGE: What can I say? I love looking down on a crowd. And, lucky me, Midtown now has two (yep, 1+1) VIP sections. The most exclusive section features stairs, two large VIP tables and a great view of the Midtown’s bar.
  • POLE POSITION: Everyone hates a skanky stripper, but stripper poles in nightclubs? We all love ‘em! Midtown has, count ‘em: one, two.
  • IN THE BLACK: Every time I went to Play, I wondered, “What would Jesus do with that orange decor?” – because citric acid is soooo 2004. Thank goodness Midtown is black and white and bed all over. (Yes, dancing on the white couches/beds is allowed.)

So, come one, come all. It doesn’t matter if you’re Democrat, Republican, Green or Libertarian … as long as you’re getting your party on at Midtown – conveniently located in the middle of town (pun intended) at 1219 Connecticut Avenue, on the 2nd Floor.
